THE BLOOD OF JESUS
It is that season of the year again when Believers come together and celebrate the suffering, death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. And it is such a great privilege to bring such teaching to you. In a season like this, we do not just eat and drink without a thorough knowledge of what Christ did over 2000 years ago. In a bid to help us understand, I am writing this piece. I, however, do not claim that it will be exhaustive but it will surely add a piece of knowledge and joy to the celebration.
Leviticus 17:11 says,
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that makes an atonement for the soul.”
The blood of every flesh contains its life. This means your natural life is held up because blood is flowing through you. It is on this premise that the blood can make atonement.
Why is this?
The blood can only speak for the number of days it has lived. So, when the blood has lived for a year, it can only speak atonement for a year. This is why in the Jewish tradition, the atonement animal is a year old and its blood speaks for redemption for a year. Hence, the atonement is done yearly (Exodus 30:10).
In this same pattern, Jesus’ blood contains the life of God which is eternal and when the blood was shed for our redemption, it only needed to be shed once and for all because the blood speaks redemption for all eternity (Hebrews 9:12).
What then is in the blood of Jesus?
- Life (John 6:53–54). So as we join other believers in celebration this season, we must find time to partake of the Lord’s table, eating His flesh and drinking His blood because in so doing, we are not only proclaiming the Lord’s death (1 Corinthians 11:26), we are also feasting on His life.
- His blood was shed for the remission of our sins (Isaiah 53:4–5, Hebrews 9:22).
- His blood guarantees our victory. Revelations 12:11 says, “And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives unto the death.” This scripture relates to the casting out of the devil from the role of the accuser (check verse 10). The devil no longer stands to accuse us because of the blood of Jesus.
- Hebrews 12:24. The blood of Jesus speaks better things in quantity since it is eternal; it speaks better things in quality since it speaks mercy and forgiveness of sin.
Let this seemingly simple piece cause your heart to rejoice. Happy Easter Celebration!!!
