WHO IS YOUR CULTURE?

I am often not so reactive but raising a cautionary discourse about incidents of grave and eternal consequence has prophetic antecedents. More so, the musing of my heart in prayers this morning gave conviction to this exposition.

Seven in every 10 persons in the globe elevates the Western Civilization as the ultimate human civilization. Many of us from Africa, South America, and some part of Asia feel that the democracy, for instance, practiced in the US and Europe is the peak of governmental models that can exist. On the heels of World War II, we now embrace the pseudo-peace presented by Western Nations as the best form of peace. The war left us so scared that we were comfortable with anything less as long as it was not war. This decision has led us to where we are today.

Truth and value have been redefined and progressive ideas have been infused into our daily lives. One expression of this (that I would like to indicate in this piece) is the blurred lines of gender and sexuality. The options have been increased and it gets crazier by the day. A man might not be a man though his physical form is a man. It’s annoying and frustrating.

This brings me to the case of the popular cross-dresser in Nigeria whose name I won’t dignify by putting in this text. Until he is prosecuted for the abnormality that he is perpetrating, the next generation will become brazen to do worse. The compromise of a generation becomes the culture of the next generation. This must be avoided by all means.

Hence, a call to action; a call to prayer. We need gatemen who would mount the gate of culture and uphold the ancient cultures of truth and value. We need those who will dig again the ancient wells and set the ancient landmarks. They don’t have to be believers, they just simply have to appreciate biblical values and beliefs.

We can’t but indicate that ancient heritages are not void of excesses and potholes. They do have limitations. This is why Christ must become our culture, He must be our heritage, our philosophy, our worldview. He must be our civilization. Else, we would attempt to correct the excesses of one heritage by falling into the error and compromises of another heritage.

Christ must be our Civilization!
